Cannot Install Ubuntu with Wubi In Windows Vista, Windows 7 or Higher [ Solved ]


I'm already giving instructions on how we can use Linux without pain in our computer. If you are new comer to linux the best practice is to install and test Ubuntu under wubi package. You may feel discomfort if you hear what is Wubi?

What is wubi?

Simply it's a software used to install linux inside your Windows  operating system, if you are not aware of how to use ubuntu installation or you have no software skills in linux. It simply creates a virtual hard disk inside windows partition and there is no need to worry about creating partitions and resize your system hard disk.

What Happens When You install using Wubi?

Wubi is a windows software it simply allocates some memory you allowed in this software see screen shot:

 

Here shows the basic screen of wubi. when you run wubi from cd it will show some options like,

           1.Demo and Full Installation

           2. install inside windows

           3.Learn More

When you click on install inside windows, it will show above dialog box. Here you can select Installation Drive. Drive size and desktop environment. Also there is options to choose language , username and password.

Not getting Install Inside Windows option:

Ubuntu discs have some running facilities that is usually known as live cd option. you can test new Ubuntu inside your cd without installing ubuntu. This has a special read only file system inside your cd called squash file system or squashfs.Some settings related squashfs will not allow run wubi installation from DVD medium, so you have to copy all files to directory in your computer hard disk in order to overcome this problem.

Start Installation with wubi:

After giving all settings in the above dialog box. Click Install button. It will shows the copying progress of disc image for some minutes after that shows an option to restart your computer.

Wubi shows an error before complete installation:

Some operating systems preserves a special boot partition in it. Like Windows 7 it keeps a separate hidden boot partition in it. In such cases Wubi will crash when writing boot entry to your boot partition, beacuse wubi usually makes changes to C: drive but in Windows 7 its only installation partition not boot partition. In Windows 7 boot partition shown as System Reserved partition. To overcome this problem you have to give drive letter to boot partition for this right click on Computer then choose managein the system management window choose Disk Management (See Picture)

 Then choose system reserved or system partition that has no drive letter. Right click on drive and choose Change Drive Letter and Paths. Click Add... and choose a drive letter and click OK (See Picture)

 

 Now try again if your previous attempt failed due to hidden boot drive. Also it is not necessary to keep boot partition as C: drive after installing you can also remove drive  letter if you not need to show boot drive in computer option. That's all with installing with Wubi. Restart computer now you can see two option windows and ubuntu choose ubuntu. some times you will forced to ubuntu installation, dont worry wait a few moments to install ubuntu. It will show installation window with progress bar, wait until finish installation. You have done.!
